She's selling everything I ever gave her on Depop. I bought the last thing.
It started with a notification. A friend sent me a screenshot. "Mate, isn't this your ex?" Her profile, Maisie_vintage_finds, a whole row of items. The grey scarf I got her in Edinburgh. The perfume she said she loved. A tiny silver ring from our six-month anniversary.
All listed. All cheap. "Gift from ex. Worn twice. Make an offer."
Worn twice.
I felt my stomach fold in on itself. I wanted to be angry. I couldn't. I just felt tiny. Every present I'd chosen so carefully, now reduced to a price tag and a "no returns."
Then I saw the final item. A small silver bracelet, engraved on the inside with her name and a date. Our first date. Β£6.
I did something stupid. I made an account under a fake name and hit "Buy Now." Paid the six quid. Told myself it was practical.
Three days later, a little padded envelope arrived. Inside, wrapped in tissue paper, was the bracelet.
And a receipt. And a sticky note.
"I priced it low so you'd see it. Everything else was a test. Nobody else was allowed to buy this one. P.S. Your fake name was Daniel_Grey. I'm not stupid."
She'd listed the whole shop just to find me.
She sold nothing else.
